NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A judge has denied a re-sentencing motion for former Vanderbilt football player Cory Batey, saying there was no bias at the time of his sentencing.

The state asked for a new sentencing with a new judge on the case after they learned that Batey's supporters had written character letters to the court that were considered in the sentencing in July.

The state says they never knew about some of those character witness accounts of Batey.

Judge Monte Watkins said previously that he would release a written ruling on Friday. Click here to read the full ruling.

Earlier this year, Batey was sentenced to 15 years, the lightest possible punishment for an aggravated rape conviction.

Channel 4 has obtained recordings of nearly every jailhouse phone call Batey made since he was convicted of aggravated rape in April. Listen to them here.
