In just one summer, two people have been shot on Broadway, which is one of Nashville's most popular streets.

Kyle Freeman, 23, who was shot Saturday night said he did not realize what had happened at first.

Freeman was walking with friends near the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Broadway when he said he felt pain on the upper left side of his back.

Freeman continued walking a block before he realized he was shot and notified police. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Despite the large crowd downtown, no one reported seeing anyone with a gun.

This shooting has many people who were enjoying themselves on Broadway on Sunday afternoon shocked.

"That is very surprising. My view, and I tell people this, that this is a really safe city for a big city this size," said Lee Rader, who gives carriage rides down Broadway.

This is not the first shooting on the popular street.

In July, a man was shot by a stray bullet near 3rd Avenue, and during last year's Fourth of July celebration, a 9-year-old girl was hit in the back with a bullet.

Freeman posted on his Facebook today, "So glad I'm okay and I'm so lucky thank you for everyone who came to see me last night and thank you for the prayers love you all."

Metro police are investigating Saturday night's shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
