Back-to-back Olympic triple jump gold medals for Christian Taylor

Posted: Updated:

Gold: Christian Taylor (United States)
Silver: Will Claye (United States)
Bronze: Bin Dong (China)

Christian Taylor successfully defended his Olympic triple jump gold medal, and fellow American Will Claye earned a silver medal at a second consecutive Games.  It was the fourth time that U.S. athletes have claimed the top two triple jump spots since 1984.

Both Taylor and Claye competed for the University of Florida.

"To do this with my brother, it’s a dream come true," Taylor said to NBC's Lewis Johnson.

After earning his third Olympic medal, Claye proposed to U.S. hurdler Queen Harrison.

"I just knew today was going to be the best day of my life," Claye said.

China’s Bin Dong, the 2016 world indoor champion, earned the bronze medal. It was China’s first triple jump medal ever.

Colombia’s Caterine Ibarguen won the women’s triple jump gold medal Sunday. Keturah Orji broke the American record.
