China's Zhen Wang wins 20km race walk

Silver: Zelin Cai (China)
Bronze: Dane Bird-Smith (Australia)

China’s Zhen Wang won the 20km race walk on Friday, clocking 1 hour, 19 minutes, 14 seconds. Wang was the bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympics. 

Fellow Chinese race walker Zelin Cai finished 12 seconds later, followed by Australia’s Dane Bird-Smith.

Brazil’s Caio Bonfim, who finished fourth, broke the national record in front of his home fans. 

2012 Olympic champion Ding Chen of China finished 39th. 

There were no U.S. athletes in the field. 

The men’s 50km and the women’s 20km race walking events will both be held on August 19. American John Nunn will make his third appearance in and Olympic race walking event.
