What to watch in primetime on NBC: Day 5

The best and brightest that the United States has to offer will be on display in primetime Wednesday night on NBC at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky, Ryan Lochte and Nathan Adrian all in action. In gymnastics, the men set their sights on an individual all-around medal.

Action heats up in the pool


Swimming finals (live ET/CT) include a showdown in the men’s 100m free between 2012 gold medalist Nathan Adrian of the U.S. and Australian sprint star Cameron McEvoy, plus a favored American quartet in the women’s 4x200m free relay, expected to be led by freestyle phenom Katie Ledecky. In prelims, Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte seek to advance in the men’s 200m IM, which Phelps has won at the past three Olympics (twice ahead of Lochte in second).

'King Kohei' tries to keep his crown


Japan's Kohei Uchimura -- winner of every world and Olympic men's all-around title since 2009 -- seeks to become the event's first back-to-back Olympic champion since 1972. Among those chasing Uchimura is American Sam Mikulak, pursuing his first podium finish at a major international event.

The top U.S. women’s beach volleyball duo, Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross, face a Swiss tandem in Isabelle Forrer and Anouk Verge-Depre.
