Josh Prenot top U.S. qualifier for men’s 200m breaststroke final

Josh Prenot, making his first Olympic appearance in Rio, is the top-ranked Team USA swimmer heading into Wednesday’s 200m breaststroke final. He finished third overall during Tuesday’s semifinals. He finished third overall during Tuesday’s semifinals with a time of two minutes, 7.78 seconds.


Ippei Watanabe of Japan and Andrew Willis of Great Britain qualified first and second, respectively.  


Prenot’s teammate Kevin Cordes, who finished just outside the podium in fourth place in the 100m breaststroke, also advanced into the final in fifth place.



The 2012 Olympic champion, Hungary’s Daniel Gyurta, surprisingly did not advance out of the preliminary heats, finishing 17th by 0.02 seconds.
