Key matchups

USA vs. Senegal (women)

The United States women's basketball team begins their pursuit of a sixth straight gold medal in a game against Senegal. USA stalwarts Diana Taurasi, Tamika Catchings and Sue Bird are on a quest to win their fourth gold medals which would tie the record for most golds won in women's basketball.

The game will also be the Olympic debut for women's basketball stars Elena Delle Donne, Breanna Stewart and Brittney Griner. A gold medal would make Stewart the first person, man or woman, to win four straight NCAA titles followed by a gold medal.

Brazil vs. Lithuania (men)

In the first men's game for the host country, Brazil will take on Lithuania -- two teams that fancy themselves medal contenders. NBA players Leandro Barbosa, Nene, Raul Neto and Marcelo Huertas will be playing in front of what is expected to be a raucous home crowd.

Lithuania's squad revolves around big man Jonas Valanciunas, a center who plays in the NBA for the Toronto Raptors, and NBA newcomer Domantas Sabonis, son of Lithuanian legend Arvydas Sabonis.

Spain vs. Croatia (men)

Back-to-back silver medalists, Spain is looking to finally get over the hump in Rio. Pau Gasol and Ricky Rubio will be counted on to lead the team, but they're surrounded with fellow NBA players Jose Calderon and Nikola Mirotic, among others.

Croatia features three current NBA players in Bojan Bogdanovic, Mario Henzonja and Dario Saric. Saric will be making his NBA debut this season for the 76ers.
