Vietnam’s Hoang Xuan Vinh outlasts Brazil’s Felipe Almeida Wu to earn gold in the 10m air pistol event.

A see-saw battle between the two for most of the final, Wu had a .2 lead going into the final shot. Wu shot first and scored a 10.1, Vinh responded with a stellar 10.7 to steal the gold from Wu and the crowd backing him.

Finishing third was the 2008 gold medalist, Pang Wei (China). The favorite going into the event was 2012 champion Jin Jong-oh (South Korea), who finished fifth.

Wu's silver medal is Brazil's first of the games, and first shooting medal since 1920. Vinh's gold medal is Vietnam's first ever gold medal.

Hoang Xuan Vinh, 41, is no stranger to success though, having won gold at the 2012 Asian Championships in Nanchang and the 2013 ISSF World Cup in Changwon. Felipe Almeida Wu, 24-years-old, won gold at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.

5.    Jin Jong-oh (South Korea)
