Women's synchronized springboard preview: Wu Minxia targets records

The women's synchronized 3m springboard event is the first event of the 2016 Rio Olympics diving slate, beginning Sunday, Aug. 7, at 3pm ET.

The Format

Synchronized diving events are direct finals with no preliminary or semifinal round. 

Each team will perform five dives. The medalists will be determined based on the five dives performed by each team.

China -- 1/14

Canada -- 12/1

Italy -- 14/1

Australia -- 16/1

Great Britain -- 28/1

Malaysia -- 50/1

Germany -- 50/1

Brazil -- 125/1

The Americans

The United States failed to qualify in this event.

The Key Storylines

A gold medal for China's Wu Minxia, who has won gold in all four Olympic event that she has entered, would earn her five different Olympic diving records, including the most diving gold medals by an individual.
