China's Chen Ruolin is just 23 years old, but she already faces the opportunity to become the greatest champion in Olympic diving history.
Chen has four gold medals in four career events -- two each in Beijing and London -- and will seek gold in the women's synchronized 10m platform with teammate Liu Huixia on Aug. 9.
Six athletes in Olympic diving history are tied with four gold medals -- Greg Louganis (USA), Pat McCormick (USA), Fu Mingxia (CHN), Guo Jingjing (CHN), Wu Minxia (CHN) and Chen.
With younger Chinese divers surpassing the veterans in the individual disciplines, Chen and Wu will each compete in just one event this year. Each will get one shot to claim the record for the most Olympic diving gold medals in a career.
Chen and her partner enter the competition with staggering 1/16 odds to win gold, according to betting website Bovada.lv. (You'd have to wager $16 on Chen and Liu in order to win $1.)
But the odds are well earned; Chen has won every major title awarded in the synchronized 10m platform event since 2006.
