Who is Alev Kelter?

Posted: Updated:

Kelter, like many USA Rugby players, is a crossover athlete. She played ice hockey and soccer collegiately.

Rugby Beginnings

Born March 21, 1991 in Tampa, Fla. She did not start playing rugby until the age of 22, when a former high school classmate recommended that she try the sport.

Major Competitions

Kelter actually earned her most impressive medal playing ice hockey, not rugby. She captained the U.S. women’s ice hockey team to the gold medal at the 2009 IIHF World Women’s U18 Championship.

Breakout Moment

Kelter helped the U.S. women clinch their spot at the Rio Olympics by winning the 2015 NACRA Sevens Championship in June of 2015.

Kelter’s nickname is “Chippy.” She received a hard hit to the jaw during a scrimmage, and, the next day, her tooth fell out when she bit into a Kaiser roll. She did not get her tooth fixed for four weeks, so the nickname stuck.

When she focuses on a task, she sticks her tongue out.
