MOUNT JULIET, TN (WSMV) -

After spending 31 years in jail for a crime he did not commit, Lawrence Mckinney is seeking clemency from Governor Haslam.

Mckinney was freed by The Innocence Project after DNA proved it was another man who raped a woman in Memphis. He's now seeking the maximum $1 million dollars for the time he spent in jail, but he is not eligible until the Governor grants him clemency.

"They told me it could take several more years before this man could have justice. When i heard I got so angry. That's not right in Tennessee" says State Representative Mark Pody.

According to the parole board Mckinney is supposed to get a clemency hearing by the end of June.
