United Way, Titans team up to help mothers in need

Posted: Updated:

More than 100 volunteers in Nashville spent Wednesday morning on a project designed to make some new mothers happy.

The United Way and the Tennessee Titans are getting set for a summer baby shower for mothers in need.

The volunteers put together baby bags that are all part of a community baby shower next month.

Workers from 21 companies took the day off to take part. Tammy Denyes brought the team from State Auto.

Denyes said she knows mothers can’t have too many of the essentials.

“I can’t imagine people not having what they need, so this is a big deal,” she said. “It’s a real important thing for me to do for other people.”

By the time the project is finished, 1,500 new mothers considered most vulnerable and at risk will receive the baby shower bags designed to give them a healthy start with their newborns.

“It’s been a tremendous day,” said Erica Mitchell with United Way of Nashville. “It’s great for Nashville.”

Titans players, cheerleaders and staff are also part of the baby shower. They will stuff baby bags on June 7.
