NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Disney Theatrical Productions is very picky when it comes to deciding whether a school can perform one of its famous stories.

Most schools are rejected and told to apply again next year, but one group of Nashville 10-year-olds received good news.

Like every other school in town, Smith Springs Elementary School wanted to perform a Disney show for an audience.

The odds were not on their side, but the first-year school got the OK to perform The Lion King.

The Disney Musicals in Schools project is a free semester-long, after-school musical theater program. Spots in the program are highly sought after.

The students at Smith Springs Elementary will perform The Lion King next Tuesday and Wednesday at TPAC.
