Website helps people share resolutions with single word

Posted: Updated:

Six years ago, Alece Ronzino had the idea to start a website where your New Year’s resolution could be summed up in just one word.

The one word challenge was a bold idea.

“I’ve seen people choose words like hope, growth, trust, patience, which I think is one of the riskiest words you can pick,” Ronzino said.

When Ronzino started One Word 365, she hoped other people would take up her challenge.

“The challenge to kind of choose at the beginning of the year how you want to live that year, who you want to be, what you want to do, focus on, so definitely a challenge,” she said.

More than 12,000 people have signed up. They stay in touch online, communicating progress and setbacks with one word.

“I think what makes one word manageable is that it’s one thing,” Ronzino said. “It’s easy to wrap your brain around, easy to keep in front of you all year.”

Ronzino described six years of one-word resolutions.

“Personally, some of my words over the years have been risk, brave, enough, wholehearted, choose and look,” she said.

This year, Ronzino is all in with guts and gusto.

“I’m willing to share it. You’re not going to want to air it,” she said. “My word for this year is badassery.”
