NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

At a rehearsal at Nashville’s First Baptist Church, the Middle Tennessee Honors Choir brings the area’s best high school singers together.

Ceanna Joseph is in Nashville from Atlanta to conduct the teen choir. She said she loves their sound and the age group.

“To me, there’s something special about being the age of 17,” Joseph said. “There is a beginning at this time where they’re just starting what their path is going to be in life, and there’s something real and precious about that.”

The mixed choir of sophomores to seniors use their free time to sing.

Lani Bruinsma, a senior in Hickman County, said she enjoys singing with the choir.

“I think I feel more confident when I sing with other people than just singing by myself,” she said. “I feel like I have more of a backup.”

For these young singers, getting picked to be part of the Middle Tennessee Honors Choir is the equivalent of being selected for the all-state football or basketball team.
