NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Steve Ford’s college football life is on a 45-year winning streak.

“Ain’t got no job,” Ford said, laughing. “Ain’t never had no job.”

College football fans have supported Ford for years, whether they know it or not.

Ford produces painting of college football passion. His loyalty isn’t to any team, but rather to what he sells.

“If there’s an emotional attachment to it, man oh man, I love it,” he said. “That’s what sports is. Winners are happy and losers are not.”

Winning and losing got Ford into drawing a long time ago.

“When I was 8, there’d be a fight at school every day, and I’d illustrate the fight,” Ford said. “And the winner would always say, ‘How much you take for that?’”

Ford kept painting while playing basketball for the 1972 Kentucky Wildcats. He still credits his mother for his early sports inspiration.

“It’s just something you always did,” Ford said. “Mama wouldn’t let you come into the house until after dark. Football, basketball, baseball, if the pond froze, you’d play hockey.”

Ford said his work was never designed for art critics or fine art galleries, but his talent goes beyond first downs and touchdowns.

“Whereas mine is … there it is. If you don’t understand it, it’s my fault,” Ford said.

With a messy studio and his trusty guitar, Ford said the last 45 years have been like one long victory.

“Never had a job in my adult life. Now that’s an accomplishment, when you’re selling something nobody needs,” he said.

Since Ford lives in Nashville, he said he is happy to see the Volunteers get back into contention. He said the one constant about success is even when one team is down, it means someone else is up.
