Jason Aldean's drummer runs weekend Crash Course

Drummers from across the country came to Nashville for a 72-hour Crash Course.

Rich Redmond runs Crash Course for Success on weekends he is not on the road drumming for Jason Aldean’s band.

All the musicians had to audition to take part. They are some of the best unknown musicians in the country.

“They might just want to be a weekend warrior that plays every Thursday, Friday or Saturday in the best band in the city, or they might want to take a stab and move to Nashville and navigate this crazy business,” Redmond said.

One of the participants, Kathleen Steahle, looks more mom than mosh pit. Channel 4 asked her what she is thinking when she plays.

“I’m thinking about how I have to do the laundry when I get home,” she said, laughing.

Steahle’s day job is with the phone company.

“I install poles, cables,” she said. “I run a crew of 325 guys.”

Like everyone else in the course, she has drumming dreams.

“To play full time, teach, be on the road wherever I can play,” Steahle said.

Redmond is a sound believer that the world can never have enough drummers. His Crash Course seems to support that idea.

Next year, Redmond will take his course to Seattle, Chicago and Los Angeles.
