'Seinfeld' theme musician to speak at Belmont

Jonathon Wolf is a highly accomplished piano player. For years, he was one of the best session musicians in Los Angeles.

Despite all of his accomplishments, Wolf is perfectly fine knowing he’ll forever be known for one silly little ditty.

Wolf composed the 30-second theme to the TV show Seinfeld.

“I got this phone call from Jerry Seinfeld. Jerry who?” Wolf said.

Seinfeld, a relatively unknown comic at the time, wanted a TV theme that sounded different.

“And I had his attention,” Wolf said.

Wolf said that phone call changed his life.

“I’m happy to get that call from Jerry Seinfeld,” he said.

Monday, Wolf will speak to music students at Belmont University, who are all well aware of his Seinfeld theme.

“I think it’s amazing,” said Billy Scaletta, a Belmont music student. “Not a whole lot of music, too. Just a short little blurb. But I mean, it’s iconic. People know it when they hear it.”

With the song playing night after night on televisions around the world, students might ask Wolf about residuals.

“Yeah, it’s all good,” Wolf said. “I’m smiling.”

Wolf will speak and perform one of his highly entertaining shows at Belmont University on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
