NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police have made an arrest in the murder of a teen at the James Cayce Homes earlier this month.

Ian Patterson, 17, was shot on Oct. 11 while standing outside his car in the parking lot of the public housing development on South 7th Street.

Officers found Patterson in the driver’s seat of his car, he was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died.

In a tweet, Metro police said 18-year-old Quantarius Newsom was booked Thursday afternoon for Patterson’s murder.

Investigators said Patterson was robbed and shot after coming to the area to buy cocaine. Newsom allegedly admitted his involvement in the shooting in an interview with police.

Newsom has been charged with criminal homicide and aggravated robbery. He is being held on a $300,000 bond.

Police said this investigation is ongoing.
