Parents to voice concerns about bullying at school board meeting

DICKSON, TN (WSMV) -

Several families have filed a lawsuit against the Dickson County School District for alleged bullying.

Parents said a child on a Dickson Middle School football team has continuously been bullying their children.

According to the lawsuit, the bullying includes racial slurs, threatening rape, hazing and inappropriate touching in the locker room.

Five families and a former assistant coach have filed the lawsuit.

Shane Dunning, the former assistant coach, told Channel 4 he alerted school officials to the misconduct. Three hours after doing so, he received a text message from the head coach telling him he was fired.

“I want these kids protected,” Dunning said. “Social media has not been a friend of mine today or yesterday. But I just hope people will understand, at the end of the day, this about kids, about the safety of our kids in schools.”

The school board told Channel 4 earlier this month that all of the claims of misconduct were unfounded and the motives were highly questionable.

A school board meeting will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. Parents said they plan to address their concerns at the meeting.
