NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The man charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of two 18-year-old women has been returned to Nashville from a California prison.

Patrick Lamonte Streater is accused of stabbing Exotic Tan employees Tiffany Campbell and Melissa Dawn Chilton on Feb. 22, 1996. Their manager found the victims after he couldn't get in touch with them by phone.

Metro police said Streater and Campbell were dating.

Streater was not indicted until 19 years later in February 2013. Until Wednesday, he was being held at a California prison serving time for a robbery.

"Gail Chilton and Deborah Edmonds, the mothers of the victims, were informed this week that Streater was being returned,” said Chief Steve Anderson in a news release.  “As I noted in 2013, these strong women never lost hope with this investigation."

Metro police said Streater will appear in a Nashville courtroom in the "near future."
