Haslam signs 'right to try' bill into law

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A new "right to try" law is being applauded by families struggling with terminal illness.

Gov. Bill Haslam signed the bill into law after both the Tennessee Senate and House unanimously passed it.

The new law allows patients with incurable diseases to use experimental drugs that have passed initial safety tests, but may not be fully approved by the FDA.

Patients and their doctors will need approval from the manufacturer of the drug to use it.
