Filling machine identified as source in Jeni's listeria outbreak

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Investigators have tracked down the source of a possible listeria outbreak at Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams.

The source has been identified as a pint-filling machine at a production facility in Ohio.

Jeni's CEO said the company will spend $200,000 on changes to make sure this doesn't happen again.

The company also plans to destroy 265 tons of ice cream worth $2.5 million.

Last month, Jeni's recalled all of its products and closed its retails stores, including three in Nashville, due to the possible outbreak. There is no timetable for when the retail stores will reopen.
