MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

The Rutherford County sheriff made his first public appearance in several weeks on Monday night.

Sheriff Robert Arnold has been keeping a low profile ever since a Channel 4 I-Team investigation into controversial dealings at the jail, including insider contracts to his relatives and subordinates.

Arnold appeared before a county budget committee and answered their questions for nearly four hours, but he wasn't talking to reporters.

"Sheriff, you've been under a lot of pressure to resign. The fact that you're here tonight, does that mean you're not going to?" asked Channel 4 reporter Nancy Amons.

"I can't comment about ongoing investigations," Arnold replied.

Arnold has hired an attorney, who appeared on his behalf during an ethics hearing last week.
