Officials have identified the woman who was found burning in a field off Highway 76 in Robertson County.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said the woman found was Amy Murphy, 31, of Clarksville.

Just a few days after the body was discovered, a warrant was issued for Murphy's arrest. It is not clear why.

Until about a year ago, Murphy lived in a Clarksville apartment complex. She was evicted, owing several thousand dollars.

A neighbor said she lived with a man and several young children. The neighbor also said Murphy worked a lot.

A woman driving in the area on Feb. 1 had noticed what she thought was a piece of wood burning in an open field near her Robertson County home.

Instead, officials discovered it was a body burning in the field off Highway 76 near Port Royal Road.

The body was found about 500 feet from the Sulphur Fork Creek.

“I could not believe what I had seen,” said Elizabeth Stuard on the day of the discovery. "I see a light up here in the field.”

When she drove closer, she thought it was a log burning.

Worried the fire might grow, she called 911.

As firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, they discovered they were human remains.

“This is a rural area. It stays pretty quiet usually,” said Ryan Martin, public information officer for the Robertson County Sheriff's Office.

Officials with Robertson County and the TBI investigated the case as a homicide.

“But not ruled it as a homicide. We'll try to develop leads from there,” Martin said.
