Old Hickory home destroyed after fire rekindles

Posted: Updated:

Some residents in Old Hickory are homeless after a fire destroyed their house overnight.

The homeowners were optimistic about being able to restore the home at 403 Jones St. after it first caught fire around 10:30 p.m. Thursday and was quickly extinguished.

At that point, fire officials say only the left side of the home was damaged, and it was salvageable, but the flames rekindled early Friday morning, destroying the rest of the home.

Two of the homeowners' six dogs were killed in the fire but everyone else was able to get out safely.

Officials say the blaze may have started in a furnace in the basement.
