Man accused of exposing himself inside library

Posted: Updated:
HENDERSONVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police are searching for a man who allegedly committed a sexual act inside the Hendersonville Public Library on Thursday.

A young mother said she saw the man performing the act inside the library. Police are trying to determine if this has happened before.

The Hendersonville mother said she took her two children to the library. While the children were upstairs reading and she was writing in her journal, she said she felt someone staring at her.

The woman said she looked across the table and saw the man.

"I look up and I see the man basically holding himself, pleasuring himself," said the woman, who asked to remain anonymous. "And when I looked up again, the paper was lifted and I could see that he was holding himself."

The woman said she immediately alerted library staff, but the man was able to leave. She later filed a police report.

Police said the suspect is described as a black man, about 6' with a thin build. He was wearing a hunter green hoodie and khaki-colored pants at the time.

The woman said when she reported the incident to the library's front desk, staff indicated this had happened before.

"There had been chairs in the lobby in front of the children's section, and he had been sitting there, pleasuring himself," the woman said. "And I'm like, this has happened before?"

The woman's husband shared the story on a Hendersonville Facebook page to spread the word about both instances.

"I'm absolutely shocked that our community didn't know, that other parents hadn't been talking about this incident," she said.

Now, the mother intends to sue.

The library was closed Friday, but the I-Team left several messages with the library manager and the head of the library board.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Hendersonville Crime Stoppers at 615-573-5400.
