PHOENIX (AP) - A recount in southern Arizona's 2nd Congressional District race between Democratic incumbent Ron Barber and Republican challenger Martha McSally is set to begin.

Officials in Pima County will begin recounting on Thursday and will have to count every ballot in the county even though only about 187,000 are from the 2nd District.

Cochise County plans to start its count of more than 37,000 ballots on Monday and expects to be done in three to four days.

After the ballots are recounted, a hand count of a sample from each county will be done to verify the machine count was accurate.

Both counties tested their machines on Wednesday and found no problems.

McSally leads Barber by 161 votes out of nearly 220,000 cast in the district.
