LEWISBURG, TN (WSMV) -

A local community is mourning the loss of a beloved dentist who was hit and killed while riding his bicycle Monday morning.

Dr. Laray Rector, 55, was hit head-on by a driver at Highway 50 and Bryant Station Road in Maury County.

Rector and a friend from church were riding along the road at 6 a.m. when a driver came over a hill and apparently moved into their lane.

There have been no charges filed against the driver and there was no evidence of alcohol or texting while driving. The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the crash is still under investigation.

Rector was a deacon at his church and a little league baseball coach.

Friends said Rector's son, Evan Rector, is still recovering from a motorcycle accident and had to have an arm and a leg amputated.
