Squeaky Wheel Tour raises awareness for missing persons cases

Posted: Updated:

Jennifer and Adrianna Wix of Robertson County went missing nearly a decade ago.

The case involving the mother and daughter was reclassified as a homicide in December 2013. But that hasn't helped the family find peace.

Thursday night in Nashville, the Squeaky Wheel Tour tried to help by bringing desperately needed attention to missing person cases that have long gone cold.

Kathy Nale has been mourning for Jennifer and Adrianna Wix for 10 years.

"I live part of me in 2004 and part of me in 2014," said Nale, mother of Jennifer Wix. "There's always this gaping hole."

Johnnie Carter's daughter, Bethany Leanne Markowski, went missing in Jackson, TN in 2001. She was 11 years old.

"It's like being on an island while being with a bunch of people, but you're still alone," Carter said.

Both women are counting on police and the public to find their loved ones.

Both said nights like Thursday are incredibly important.

The Squeaky Wheel Tour is one of 13 events across the country that Jannel Rap produces to spotlight missing persons.

"When my sister disappeared on Oct. 17, 2000, I really thought the people I saw on TV were the only people that were missing," Rap said. "At the end of the year there are still 40,000 to 80,000 still missing and no way to get attention for them."

Rap said the shows have generated leads and created happy endings, something families of the missing continue to hope for.

If you have information on a missing person, contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children 1-800-843-5678 (1-800-THE-LOST).

There's a $27,000 reward offered for information that leads to a conviction in the deaths of the Jennifer and Adrianna Wix.
