David Chase, ex debate orders of protection at hearing

Posted: Updated:

The contractor at the center of a citywide domestic violence controversy was in court again Thursday.

David Chase is accused of beating up his former girlfriend twice. The second assault allegedly happened right after Chase was released from jail when a judge waived the mandatory "cooling-off" period.

Thursday's hearing was about orders of protection. Chase has filed one against his ex-girlfriend, while she has also filed one against him.

Chase's ex-girlfriend argued that he pulled her out of his apartment by her hair. She said he came back, choked her and threatened to kill her.

Chase's attorney said the woman is lying. He is asking for an order of protection against her because she reportedly harassed Chase and repeatedly returned to his apartment despite the fact he asked her to leave.

Ultimately, a judge awarded the woman a one-year order of protection, while denying Chase's request.

The hearing began at 11 a.m. and continued into Thursday evening. Judges swore in about a dozen witnesses.

Chase's ex-girlfriend was on the stand for about four hours.
