DECATURVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Decatur County sheriff confirmed human remains were found in Decatur County on Sunday morning but would not say if it was connected to the disappearance of Holly Bobo.

Two men from Benton County discovered a human skull around 10 a.m. while searching for ginseng, according to Decatur County Sheriff Keith Byrd. The pair found the remains in a remote, wooded area off County Corner Road near Holladay, TN.

"They didn't dig the skull up; it was laying on the ground," Byrd said.

Deputies took statements from the men but did not question them any further. Officials said more than half a dozen people are in the woods investigating. Byrd said crews could be combing the wooded area for several days.

A deputy and an employee from the District Attorney's Office guarded the site throughout Sunday evening.

The TBI also sent agents to the scene. Spokesman Josh DeVine said the evidence will be sent to the TBI crime lab in Memphis for further examination. DeVine said at this time, the TBI is still investigating the findings as "possible" human remains. It's unclear how long testing will take.

"We're confident we'll be bringing closure to someone; it's just too soon to say who," said Matt Stowe, district attorney for the 24th Judicial District. "It's a sad day because it's confirming death."

The TBI strongly stated that they have not linked the discovery to the disappearance of nursing student Holly Bobo.

Bobo was 20 years old when she disappeared outside her Darden, TN, home on April 13, 2011. Bobo's brother, Clint, saw her being led away from the home between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m.

The investigation appeared to pick up steam in March after agents from the TBI and FBI searched several locations in Decatur and surrounding counties, including the home and property of 29-year-old Zachary Adams in Holladay, about 15 miles from the Bobo residence.

The newly elected Byrd has recently said he promises to bring justice to the Bobo case.
