One person killed in I-40 crash

Posted: Updated:

A man critically injured in a Monday afternoon crash on Interstate 40 east of Broadway has died, Metro police said.

The victim has been identified at 34-year-old Phillip Ford of Brentwood.

Police said Ford was driving a 2012 Toyota Camry east on I-40 just before 2 p.m. when, according to a witness, he attempted to change lanes and sideswiped a tractor-trailer in the process.

Ford's vehicle swerved back to the right and he lost control. The car traveled off the right side of the interstate and hit a rock wall head-on.

Ford was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died.

Police said the tractor-trailer did not stop. Information about the vehicle is unknown at this time.

There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene on the part of Ford.
