UPDATE: Hamilton County EMS searching for man in Pocket Wilderness

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Hamilton County Emergency Services Public Information Officer Amy Maxwell tells Channel 3 the missing man has been found and transported to the hospital. More information will be released as it becomes available.

UPDATE: Dozens of emergency workers swept the woods, looking for two missing hikers.
"Two parties lost in the pocket wilderness, one party was too sick and couldn't make it out," said Mike Brumlow, Sequoyah Fire Chief.

It was a male and female that went into the wilderness around noon on Friday and after help was called, only one has been found and they hope to find the other soon.

Officials said with hot summer temperatures it's even more dangerous if you're lost in the woods and not prepared.

"Protein bars, water, just stuff to keep you going," said Brumlow.

Brumlow says water is the most important item and lots of it.

"Anytime you're ever in the woods or do an extreme sport, keep yourself hydrated, keep plenty of water in your body," said Brumlow.

He says if you let your dehydration go too long, your body will start to shut down.

"You could go into heat exhaustion, heat stroke, when the body stops sweating that means you're fixing to hit the heat stroke phase," said Brumlow.

Crews tell Channel three they could be out in the wilderness for several hours before the man is located.

The condition of the girl has not been released at this time.
