Durham home severely damaged in early morning fire

DURHAM, N.C. -

 A home in Durham suffered severe damage after an early morning fire Saturday.

The Durham Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 228 Newberry Lane just after 3 a.m., according to authorities.

Heavy fire was reported from the roof and rear of a two story home, firefighters reported.

The fire was under control in about 45 minutes.

There was no one home and the residents are believed to be out of town, officials said.

A firefighter injured his foot on scene. His injury is being evaluated.

An investigator is on scene to determine the cause.
