VCU player suspended

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

VCU senior Briante Weber has been suspended. He is facing a petit larceny charge right now.

Shaka Smart & VCU just released a statement that Weber has been suspended for violation of team rules.

Court documents reveal this alleged offense all happened on July 24th. Weber was expected in court Friday, but we have learned his case was continued until September 25th.

Weber is considered one of the top defensive players in the country and led the nation in steals last year. He is a key part of Shaka Smart's "HAVOC" style of play. Weber will not play for VCU's first game against Tennessee.

Coach Shaka Smart also states that, "Briante has failed to live up to the standards we have set for our program and we are holding him accountable."
