Nashville Fire Department changes rules on hospital transport

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Nashville Fire Department has new rules in place about transporting people to the hospital.

The new rules state all patients in traumatic arrest will be taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Trauma Center.

Earlier this week, first responders did not take a man to the hospital because they said he had no chance of surviving, even though he was still breathing.

The man had shot himself in the head.

The first responders said they were following protocol of not transporting if there's no chance of survival, even if there are signs of life.
