Junior running back Mike Davis wants to remove "fumble" from his vocabulary.
Admit it, you clicked this headline and thought players on the South Carolina Gamecocks football team have dirty mouths and needed to clean them.
Not quite, but there is one f-word the junior running back Mike Davis wants to remove from his vocabulary: fumble.
"We can't say fumble," said Davis. "Our coaches call it failure to protect the ball, so we call it the f-word. The f-word."
Last season, Davis had several crucial fumbles in games against the University of Central Florida and Missouri. This season, Davis says he and the coaches are focused on taking better care of the football.
During practice last week, running backs coach Everette Sands said he doesn't believe Davis has a fumbling problem.
"I wouldn't call it a problem," Sands said to TheBigSpur. "Central Florida, it was a
probably fatigue issue more than anything. The one play, he actually
went the wrong way. I wouldn't call it a problem but our goal is to have
zero all year. More than zero is a problem."
The Gamecocks continue practice in preparation for season opener against Texas A&M on Aug. 28.
