West End neighbors on edge after shooting

Posted: Updated:

Neighbors are shocked to hear about a shooting in Short Pump. A man was shot around 9:30 Thursday night near the Foxchase Apartments off Lauderdale Road. The victim is expected to be ok, but the fact that a gunman is still out there, has people who live in that area on edge.

Kids playing near the Fox Chase Apartments in the West End is a normal site according to people who live in the area. Some say the biggest problem they notice is the occasional speeder.

So when shots rang out Thursday night many were in shot.

"We were out side playing in the grass and we heard 3 shots and it sounded like fireworks. My son said, 'mom that's guns' and I said, 'no that's fireworks,'" said Robin Fitzgerald. She's lived in the area for more than a year.

When she saw police cars moments later she knew her son was right.

A man was shot around 9:30 p.m. and the person responsible is still out there. Police canvassed the area for several hours.

Fitzgerald has four young boys and says now she's worried for their safety and her own.

"I had to go back out to the store last night. After I came back home, I was scared to get out of my car because what if he's like, two cars away hiding," Fitzgerald said.

She says she's glad the victim will be ok and she hopes his shooter isn't free much longer.

If you have any information on the shooting, call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
