Police in Smyrna are asking for help in solving the murder of a local father.

Danny Wright, 46, was gunned down in front of two teenagers.

"He's at his final home," said Chase Wright, the victim's brother. "He's at peace now."

Danny Wright's family is not only grieving, they are also still searching for answers to who shot their loved one.

"The person who did this, he might as well have shot and killed my parents, seeing the pain they had," Chase Wright said. "The guy walked right up behind him, my brother went to turn and he just opened fire on him. Nobody deserves to die like that."

Wright was shot five times as he worked on a vehicle in the yard of a Smyrna home last Thursday. The suspect left the scene and is still on the run.

A 13-year-old boy was one of two people next to Danny Wright as he was shot. He attended the funeral, and family members said he is going through a lot.

"He is very sad, he is heartbroken," Chase Wright said. "My brother was like a father to him."

The family said Danny Wright had his share of problems in the past.

"My brother is no angel," Chase Wright said. "Nobody is perfect."

One of his daughters believes her father's murder was set up.

"Who's just going to drive by and see my dad working on a car at 6 in the morning?" Jackie Williams asked. "Three people working on a car, and he was the only one who got shot."

Police are still chasing leads, but are asking for the public's help to solve the case.

"We feel as the community does; the urgency to bring this person to justice," said Detective Rick Hall with the Smyrna Police Department. "We're looking for the public to reach out and give us a call, no matter how insignificant they feel it may be."

Police said oftentimes, there may be certain information they can't share with the public or family out of fear of jeopardizing the case.

"Not on purpose, but law enforcement will withhold information or key ingredients of the case," Hall said.

The family only hopes the suspect is captured soon.

"There are no words to bring him back," Chase Wright said. "I just pray to God that someone comes forward and we can get justice served."

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Smyrna police at (615) 459-6644.
