Community remembers animals killed at Walden's Puddle

JOELTON, TN (WSMV) -

Nearly two months after about 90 wild animals were killed at Walden's Puddle Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, the community is coming together to memorialize their deaths.

On any given day, thousands of wild animals are being rehabilitated at Walden's Puddle. On June 23, the animals' lives were put in jeopardy when a small fire broke out in the nonprofit's laundry room.

"They did not suffer," said Lane Brody, CEO of Walden's Puddle. "We were told it was the smoke inhalation. They all quietly passed. There was no burning of anything like that."

The community did not take the tragedy lightly. Donations began pouring in to rebuild the center.

Monday, friends and supporters gathered to pay tribute to the animals that didn't survive.

Supporters said they believe this event will turn the center into a bigger and better place to help the animals.

So far, the downstairs, where most of the damage was sustained, is already complete. Funds have already been raised to finish renovating the upstairs.

To make a donation to Walden's Puddle, click here to visit their website, or mail a check to PO Box 641, Joelton, TN 37080.
