Investigation continues into deadly Fairview crash

FAIRVIEW, TN (WSMV) -

Two people were killed after their car slammed into the side of a Fairview animal hospital Thursday, but investigators are unsure what led up to the deadly accident.

The sheer force of the wreck is part of the problem for investigators. The impact was so strong, and the damage to both the vehicle and the people inside so severe, that medical examiners still haven't been able to identify one of the elderly victims killed in the crash.

Parts of the 15-year-old vehicle were scattered all over the lot, while the side of the White Creek Animal Hospital on Fairview Boulevard was caved in.

Williamson County resident Chris Mitacek heard the accident from inside his office and quickly ran outside to see if he could help.

"I was working in the office next door and heard a terrific noise outside," Mitacek said. "By the time I got outside, the car was in the building next door."

Investigators believe the driver, Allen Dorton of Bon Aqua, may have had a heart attack or stroke while driving. They said he never slowed down as his car went into the curve on the stretch of road.

That coincides with what first responders told Mitacek.

"The car was traveling in an excess of speed, started coming around the curve, lost control, hit this culvert, started going end over end and went into the building," he said.

Mitacek and his crew stood by helplessly, watching the first responders work on the car. He said the horrific scene will stay with him for a long time.

"It was haunting, to be honest," Mitacek said. "It was something I hope to never see again."

Fairview police say they hope to be able to identify the woman killed in the crash before the end of the day Friday.
