Family of five displaced by fire

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - A family of five has been displaced from the Chattanooga home after a house fire Wednesday night.

Four companies from the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to the alarm at 4207 10th Avenue before 8:00pm Wednesday.

CFD Captain Schroyer said there was a lot of smoke and fire inside the home.

The firefighters' efforts were hampered by the home's construction, which had void spaces and several roof additions, making it difficult for fighters to reach the fire, according to Bruce Garner, the Public Information Director for the Chattanooga Fire Department.

It took about 30 minutes for the fire to be brought under control, with most of the damage being confined to the kitchen and garage areas.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Damages are estimated to be about $25,000.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee provided assistance to the family.
