Music Row fire called suspicious

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Music Row building slated for demolition was damaged by a suspicious fire early Saturday.

The property on Music Square West was among those developers planned to destroy for the construction of a new Virgin Hotel.

District Fire Chief Terry Secrest says the fire started on a stairwell in the basement and quickly spread to all three floors of the building.

It took firefighters about 4 hours to get the blaze under control.

"We called the fire marshal out because there's no power to the home," Secrest said.

"Some of the first units that were on the scene said there were some homeless around it that had blankets.  I don't know if they were in the home or just sleeping out in the yard."

No one was hurt.  The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
