MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

The man accused of attacking a Murfreesboro woman with a hammer has been arrested.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said 27-year-old Steven Akins was taken into custody in Antioch.

The victim said she fell asleep in her car in her driveway after arriving at her Shoreham Road home in Murfreesboro around 4 a.m. Sunday.

When she woke up, she said she saw Akins standing over her with a hammer.

Police say Akins started pounding the car, broke a window and even left a big dent on the side. Once he got to the victim, he allegedly started hitting her with the hammer.

The victim took one of the blows to her eye, but she was able to drive herself to the hospital. Doctors told her she would probably lose her eye because of the severity of the attack.

During the attack, the woman told police that Akins told her, "That's what you get for talking crazy."

Akins is charged with attempted first-degree murder and is being held on a $250,000 bond in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

His hearing has been set for Aug. 8 in General Sessions Court.
