WASHINGTON, DC (POOL/CNN) – The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved a $16 billion bill to overhaul the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The legislation is in response to the scandal over delays in healthcare at VA medical facilities and allegations of management shortcomings at the federal agency.

Both Democrats and Republicans threw their support behind the measure in a 420 to 5 vote.

The bill now goes to the Senate, which is expected to vote as early as Thursday.
