Gunshots fired near TPD officers while investigating shooting

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Gunshots were fired near TPD officers last night while they investigated a scene where a 24-year-old woman was shot. No officers were injured.

According to TPD, the woman was taken to a hospital around 11:30 p.m. with a non-life-threatening wound. Police responded to the residence where she was shot in the 1800 block of East Vera Cruz Vista around 2:50 a.m.

When police instructed occupants from inside the home to come outside, several shots were fired in the vicinity of the officers.

The Tucson Police SWAT Team was brought in to clear and search the area. The shooter was not located. According to police, at least one person involved in the altercation last night has previous documented gang affiliations. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact 911 or 88-CRIME.
