AMADOR COUNTY, CA (KCRA/CNN) - A fast-moving wildfire couldn't catch up to a tortoise.

Firefighters rescued Abe, a 200-pound tortoise, on Saturday from a resort.

Abe's owners were forced to leave the 20-year-old reptile behind as they fled a destructive wildfire Friday afternoon.

Much of the resort was destroyed, but once flames from the so-called Sand Fire died down in the early morning hours, firefighters went back to rescue the tortoise.
