MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

A two-story home on Belle Rive Drive was destroyed by a fire late Thursday night.

Fire officials were called about 11:30 p.m. to the home. When firefighters arrived, the home was engulfed in flames and the roof had already caved in.

A man and his three kids were not at home at the time of the fire.

Most of the family's belongings were destroyed in the fire.

"The outcome could have been totally different if the family had been home and asleep in the house when the fire started," said Tracy Summar, assistant fire marshal with the Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department.

The 2,900 square foot home appears to be a total loss.

Fire officials said the fire started in the master bathroom and appeared to be accidental.
